Five Don’t-Miss Green build Education Sessions
Published on: Wednesday, December 9th, 2015
IREM is proud to again partner with the largest sustainable real estate event in the U.S. Greenbuild, the annual conference of the U.S. Green Building Council, opens in Washington, DC, November 18-20. We invite all IREM Members and industry professionals to join us at this event as we work to advance the role of exceptional real estate management in sustainability.
We’ve been digging through the education schedule for this year’s conference. Here are five sessions you don’t want to miss:
- The Next Frontier: Enabling Energy Savings in Tenant Space
Wednesday, November 18: 1:30 to 2:30 PM
The Tenant Star program, created via legislation supported by IREM, is in development. Property managers have been trying to solve the problem of whole-building efficiency for years, and the Tenant Star program will help immensely. Great speakers, great topic. Features an IREM volunteer, Deb Cloutier of JDM Associates.
- Deep Energy Retrofits Using Performance Contracting
Wednesday, November 18: 3:00 to 5:00 PM
Great to see that Greenbuild has dedicated 2 hours to this complex, important topic. With emerging evidence on the value that sustainability and resource efficiency add to asset value, every real estate owner should be moving beyond simple paybacks and asking asset managers to evaluate deep retrofits as a way to meet and exceed investment goals. IREM’s course series Analyzing and Presenting Deep Retrofit Value, created in partnership with Rocky Mountain Institute, shows you how to do this analysis.
- Introduction to the WELL Building Standard
Thursday, November 19: 8:00 to 10:00 AM
The WELL Building Standard focuses on how buildings impact occupant health and well-being. The linkage between sustainability and wellness may drive much higher tenant demand for green space, so it’s worth getting to know WELL. IREM is certifying its new headquarters in Chicago under WELL Building Standard Interiors.
- Updating the Rest of the Market: Class B and C Buildings
Thursday, November 19: 1:30 to 2:30 PM
Another sustainable real estate frontier—Class B and C buildings. Class A is already ahead of the curve. But how can Class B and C buildings take advantage of the benefits that sustainability provides? We’ll look for answers here.
- The New Standard for Energy Efficiency in Multifamily
Thursday, November 19: 3:00 to 4:00 PM
Join Nick Stolatis, CPM®, LEED AP, who heads up sustainability for TIAA-CREF, Michael Zatz from the EPA, and Chrissa Pagitsas from Fannie Mae as they explain ENERGY STAR scores and certification for Multifamily Housing. They’ll also talk about Green Financing Loans and Green Bonds—important drivers in greening multifamily communities. IREM presented on ENERGY STAR for Multifamily Housing, with Nick, at the NAA Education Conference in June.
