Global Attacks Worldwide Make Security a Top Priority

Terrorist attacks shocked the world last week, starting on Thursday in Beirut and spanning over the weekend across Paris. As the death toll continues to rise, and governments conduct a manhunt for the guilty parties, the issue of security and keeping people safe is of unprecedented importance.

For property managers, security has always been at the forefront, but now more than ever, managers must take this time to revisit their crisis communications and emergency procedures. As stated in IREM’s White Paper on Crisis Communication, it is impossible to predict such unthinkable acts, so preparedness in all public spaces is critical.

Fine-tune your emergency procedures now by:

  • Updating contact lists
  • Establishing lines of effective communications with tenants and clients, through social media, newsletters, emails, or telephone trees
  • Develop a crisis response team and run drills
  • Consider business continuity strategies
